The Catalan model of television is exhausted; in the last 20 years it has not been capable of generating a television market and therefore has not permitted the creation of a strong industry. The public sector has played an important role in compensating for these lacks but it has also been an obstacle. The possibilities of modifying this scenario lie in the application of technology. IP television can put an end to the ubiquitous model of the current channels and permit personalisation. Band width, the speed of processing and digital storage capacity are the energy behind this change. The communication companies no longer operate in function of format and hardware but rather of the type of content, and in the field of production, multi-support structures are now necessary.
