    Michel Foucault and Axel Honneth can be considered heirs of Critical Theory and the philosophers of the “Frankfurt School”. Foucault's conceptions of “power” and “power relations” present another way of problematizing the constitution of the subject. For Honneth the concepts provided by Foucault would be important to break the deadlock in critical theory. But they would not be enough: it required the presence of the Hegelian writings (Jena) to substantiate what he called “the struggle for recognition”. In this context, there was a problem for Honneth and also for Foucault's readers: the late publication of some Foucaultian texts limited the reading and critique of his philosophy. It would be necessary to return to reading the texts, especially those published after the 1990s. Thus, this article aims to present the transience of the concept of power in Foucault, conducts a brief analysis of Honneth's reception of Foucault, and discusses the possibilities of these philosophers' proposals.

    Michel Foucault e Axel Honneth podem ser descritos como herdeiros do movimento filosófico iniciado no século XX que, possibilitado pela Teoria Crítica, ficou conhecido como “Escola de Frankfurt”. As concepções de “poder” e de “relações de poder” elaboradas por Foucault permitiram outro modo de problematizar a constituição do sujeito. Para Honneth, tais concepções seriam importantes para ultrapassar o impasse no qual se encontrava a Teoria Crítica, mas elas não seriam suficientes: foi necessária a presença dos escritos hegelianos (de Jena) para fundamentar o que ele chamou de “luta por reconhecimento”. Nesse contexto, havia um problema tanto para Honneth quanto para os leitores de Foucault: a publicação tardia de alguns textos foucaultianos foi responsável por limitar a leitura e a crítica feitas a estes textos. Ou seja, seria necessário fazer algumas releituras. Dessa forma, este artigo visa apresentar a transitoriedade do conceito de poder em Foucault, realizando uma breve análise da recepção de seu pensamento por Honneth e, deste modo, observar as possibilidades das propostas desses filósofos.
