Esbozo de filosofía de la religión en Emmanuel Lévinas: La emergencia de la hermenéutica

    El objetivo de este artículo es esbozar una filosofía de la religión en Emmanuel Lévinas. De este modo, se arrojarán luces en torno a un problema de interpretación en el que, por un lado, se considera que la filosofía de Lévinas se inscribe en el giro teológico de la fenomenología francesa, y por otro, el propio autor niega toda aproximación teológica. Con este esbozo, al mismo tiempo, se reconocen las reflexiones levinasianas sobre Dios, las Escrituras o lo sagrado, pero sin circunscribir su obra a una filosofía de la religión sobre la que nunca escribió. Ahora bien, aunque existen investigaciones sobre la filosofía de la religión del filósofo, no se ha valorado la pertinencia de este enfoque como respuesta ante quienes se apuran en sancionar un giro teológico en la filosofía levinasiana. Para satisfacer el objetivo del artículo se ha seleccionado el texto Écrit et sacré (1989), ya que se trata de la única publicación del autor que cabe bajo el rótulo bastante explícito de “filosofía de la religión”. Precisamente porque una publicación no constituye una razón suficiente para englobar la totalidad del pensamiento levinasiano, se propone solo un esbozo por el que se mantenga a salvo la empresa del autor, se estudie un artículo que aporte en esta dirección y que en general fue dejado de lado, y se muestre que, en este esfuerzo, más que giro teológico, se evidencia un giro hermenéutico. En este artículo, se muestra, primero, un panorama general de la filosofía de la religión para exponer los puntos de encuentro entre aquel y la filosofía de Lévinas. Segundo, bajo la noción de anomalías, recogemos elementos originales de Écrit et sacré que permitirán, en tercer y último lugar, proponer un esbozo de filosofía de la religión anclado en un giro hermenéutico. Se mostrará que, por su familiaridad con las Escrituras, Lévinas aboga por un ser humano capaz de ellas, abierto a ellas y a lo que las habita.

    The article introduces an outline for a philosophy of religion in the work of Emmanuel Lévinas. Thus, it throws light on an issue of interpretation in which, on the one hand, it is thought that the philosophy of Lévinas is framed in the Theological Turn in French Phenomenology and, on the other, the philosopher himself denies any theological approach. At the same time, it acknowledges the considerations of Levinas regarding God, the Holy Scriptures, and Sacredness, without framing his work in any form of philosophy of religion, of which he never wrote. Though there is some research in the philosophy of religion of Levinas, the value of such an approach, as a response to those who rush at affirming a Theological Turn within Levinasian philosophy, has not been yet considered. Bearing this in mind, the article focuses on the work Écrit et sacré (1989), which is his only work that might be labeled as “philosophy of religion”. Precisely, because just one work is not enough reason to characterize the entire thought of Levinas, only an outline is proposed in this article, thus preserving his undertaking, but allowing to address a work that has been usually dismissed. Therefore, the article shows that it might be more appropriate to speak of a Hermeneutic Turn than of a Theological Turn. First, it introduces a general view of the philosophy of religion to consider the possible points of contact with the philosophy of Lévinas. Second, it considers the idea of anomalies. Finally, it considers original elements of Écrit et sacré that might make possible to outline a philosophy of religion connected to a Hermeneutic Turn. It also shows that due to his familiarity with the Scriptures, Lévinas argues for a human being who is capable of them and who is open to them.
