    El presente artículo tiene como objetivo central explorar y analizar el ascenso y caídadel automóvil Tucker 48 desde un enfoque sociotécnico en el marco del plenodesarrollo de las sociedades industriales avanzadas, en las cuales el automóvil goza deprerrogativa en tanto que se configura y erige como emblema y representante del triunfode la subjetividad moderna. Tomando en consideración la marginalidad de estudioshistoriográficos abocados al tratamiento de innovaciones y “fracasos” tecnológicos, lapropuesta pretende destacar la importancia de los desarrollos de Preston Tucker en elposterior andamiaje y funcionamiento del automóvil. Frente a nociones deterministas einstrumentalistas que pregonan la autonomía, neutralidad e independencia de latecnología respecto a la sociedad, el abordaje del Tucker 48 demanda una miradamultidireccional y sistémica a fin de ilustrar de forma cabal la complejidad inherente asu comportamiento y funcionamiento. El análisis desde la perspectiva sociotécnicapermite identificar algunos de los vínculos fundamentales entre el poder tecnológico yel poder económico que influyen en los procesos de cambio dentro del capitalismo.

    The main objective of this work is to explore and analyze the rise and fall of the Tucker48 'car from a sociotechnical approach in the framework of the full development ofadvanced industrial societies, in which the car has the prerogative as it is configured asan emblem and representative of the triumph of modern subjectivity. Taking intoaccount the marginality of historiographic studies focused on the treatment oftechnological innovations and "failures", this proposal aims to highlight the importanceof the developments of Preston Tucker in the subsequent scaffolding and functioning ofthe car. Contrary to deterministic and instrumentalist notions that proclaim theautonomy, neutrality and independence of technology with respect to society, theapproach of the Tucker 48 demands a multidirectional and systemic view in order tofully illustrate the complexity inherent in its behavior and functioning. The analysisfrom the sociotechnical perspective allows us to identify some of the fundamental linksbetween technological power and economic power that influence the processes ofchange within capitalism.
