This paper addresses the study of place names imposed on Alosno’s mining concessions between 1844 and 1860. The special characteristics of this type of toponymy make it an important source for the knowledge of the dealers’ psychology and the mentality of the period. The types of place names are analyzed from the names found in the miningdocumentation of the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Huelva, taking into account the reason for the imposition of the names. The most important feature of this type of place name is the rupture with the usual forms in general toponymy because the namescharacterized by the relationship between the place name and the characteristics of the place stand out, but in the mining toponymy prevails the arbitrariness in the cause of the name and even the use of abstract nouns which manifest the subjectivity and expectations of the mining concession, as well as his particular devotions, friendship or kinship relations and the mythological perception of the place.
