    Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo diagnosticar los elementos del sistema turístico en el cantón Montalvo, y facilitar el conocimiento del estado actual del turismo en este territorio. Se planteó un diseño metodológico no experimental transversal, se utilizaron los métodos deductivo y analítico - sintético. La metodología implementada incluyó la caracterización del área de estudio, se analizó la situación actual de la planificación turística del cantón, se observaron inventarios de recursos y servicios turísticos, se elaboró un análisis estratégico y de la demanda, se utilizaron herramientas como entrevista, encuesta, fichas de inventario y base de datos de servicios turísticos, además de matrices de gestión local, FODA, estrategias y potencialidades. Como parte de los resultados se constató que el área de estudio cuenta con recursos dentro de la categoría de sol y playa; y ecoturísticos, con notable potencial y demanda; que requieren la intervención de principios sostenibles basados en una planificación estratégica dirigida al fortalecimiento de la actividad turística en el cantón Montalvo.

    The objective of this research is to diagnose the tourist system that of the current state of tourism in Montalvo, for which purpose a non- experimental cross-sectional methodological design was proposed, using deductive and analytical-synthetic methods. The implemented methodology included the characterization of the study area, the current situation of the tourist planning of the canton was analyzed, inventories of tourist resources and services were analyzed, a strategic and demand analysis was prepared, tools such as interview, survey, files were used inventory and database of tourist services as well as local management matrices, SWOT, strategies and potential. As part of the results, it was found that the study area has resources within the category of sun and beach and ecotourism with notable potential and demand that require the intervention of sustainable principles based on strategic planning aimed at strengthening tourism activity in Montalvo.
