Sobre leyes crueles y sociedades ciegas

    Como réplica al artículo del profesor Manuel Atienza sobre la crueldad de la proyectada ley Gallardón de protección de la vida del concebido y de los derechos de la mujer embarazada, se presenta un comentario de la reciente película “Doce años de esclavitud” ganadora del Óscar 2014 a la mejor película.

    Esta película narra con mucha crudeza una terrible historia de violencia y humillación en la sociedad esclavista del sur de los Estados Unidos a mediados del siglo XIX. Pero el horror que realmente cuenta esta película no es la violencia de los golpes y las vejaciones, sino la insensibilidad y ceguera de toda una sociedad ante lo evidentemente humano que se tiene a la vista.

    A comment on the recent film “Twelve Years a Slave”, winner in 2014 of the Oscar for best picture, is presented here in response to Professor Manuel Atienza´s article on the cruelty inherent to the Draft Bill presented by the Spanish Minister of Justice, Gallardón, concerning the protection of the unborn´s life and pregnant women´s rights.

    The film tells, with great rawness, a terrible story of violence and humiliation that takes place in the slave-society of the southern United States of the mid-nineteenth century. But this film is not about the violence of the blows or the hazing, but about the lack of sensitivity and blindness of a whole society as far as the humane is concerned.
