  Este ensayo revisa los estudios más importantes de arquitectura global publicadas en inglés para argumentar que antes del siglo XXI las Américas eran solo una ocurrencia tardía. Esta situación ha cambiado con los recientes libros escritos por Ching, Jarzonbek y Prakash (2007), James-Chakraborty (2014) e Ingersoll (2018), pero aún necesitamos una mejor apre­ciación de cómo la ocupación europea de las Américas influyó en las historias y teorías de la arquitectura tal como las conocemos.

  This essay revisits the most important surveys of global architecture published in English to argue that before the 21st century the Americas were just an afterthought. This situation has changed with the recent survey books written by Ching, Jarzombek & Prakash (2007), James-Chakraborty (2014) and Ingersoll (2018), but we still need a better assessment of how the European occupation of the Americas influenced the histories and theories of architecture as we know them.
