    Este artículo analiza tanto la situación actual de los refugiados y migrantes como los precedentes históricos y las perspectivas de futuro. A nivel global, el Alto Comisariado de Refugiados de Naciones Unidas registró en 2018 cerca de 75 millones de refugiados, el número más alto desde los años cuarenta. Sin embargo, el artículo demuestra que el estado actual, aunque complejo, tiene muchas similitudes con situaciones históricas previas. Así, lo que vivimos ahora no está totalmente fuera de lo normal, aunque incluya situaciones muy difíciles para millones de personas. Por otro lado, el análisis demuestra también la posibilidad de que todo empeore en las próximas décadas y de que una falta de voluntad política a nivel global para evitarlo conduzca a una crisis sin precedentes.

    The article analyses the current situation with regards to refugees and migrants, as well as historical precedents and future perspectives. In 2018, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees registered close to 75 million refugees in the world, which is the highest number since the 1940s. However, the article shows that the current situation, although complex, has many similarities with historical situations. Hence, what we are witnessing today is not something that is completely abnormal even though it includes very difficult situations for millions of people. Yet, the analysis also shows that it is likely that the situation will become worse in the coming decades, and that a global lack of political will to avoid this might lead to a unprecedented crisis.
