Resumen de Procesos de globalización y circulación del significado en los medios deportivos: dos casos de polémicas sobre discurso discriminatorio en el fútbol internacional

  La globalización genera espacios multilingües de interacción dondeexisten conflictos en la interpretación de prácticas discursivasaceptablesanivel local, provocando una re-escalarización (Fairclough, 2010; Blommaert,2014) de lo local, nacional, regional y global. Este trabajo explora cómo en elfútbol internacional–en que interactúan jugadores, fanáticos y medios depor-tivos internacionales–se disputan estas prácticas discursivas y su significado.En un corpus de artículos periodísticos investigamos dos incidentes en los queenunciados en español fueron interpretados por hablantes de otras lenguascomo actos discriminatorios. Usando herramientas de análisis del discurso(Martin y White, 2005; van Dijk, 2000; van Leeuwen y Wodak, 1999) mostramoscómo se construyen comunidades axiológicas y posicionamientos ideológicosque legitiman marcos interpretativos regionales, relegando a un segundo planola discusión sobre las prácticas discursivas discriminatorias a nivel local. Estapugna por el derecho a la interpretación produce reflexiones metapragmáticassobre la inestabilidad del significado a través de las diferentes escalas (global,regional, local). Mostramos cómo lo que en una escala resulta inocuo, en otraes un índice de significados ideológicamente cargados que define a un indivi-duo o grupo como racista u homofóbico.

  Globalization generates new multilingual interaction spaces whereconflicts occur over the interpretation of discursive practices that areacceptablelocally. These processes produce a re-scalarization (Fairclough, 2010; Blom-maert, 2014) of the relations between the local, the national, the regional andthe global as spaces where the production of meaning involves the negotiationof power relations. The paper explores how in international football, whereplayers, fans and the sports media from different countries interact, there aredisputes about acceptable discursive practices and their meaning. We investi-gate two incidents in professional football in which participants from other lan-guage communities interpret utterances in Spanish as hate speech. Using toolsfrom discourse analysis (Martin and White, 2005; van Dijk, 2000; van Leeuwen& Wodak, 1999), we show how a variety of discursive strategies are used tobuild axiological communities and ideological alignments that reinforce discri-minatory discourses. These conflicts over interpretations produce metaprag-matic reflections about the instability of meaning and awareness of the diverseinterpretations of the same discursive practice at different scales. What at onescale is innocuous at another indexes a highly ideologically charged meaningthat defines an individual or group as racist or homophobic.
