    This text tries to approach to the History of the French Foreign Legion, focusing on the contribution of ideas and new traditions which contributed to the modernization and cohesion of the corps, especially during the interwar period. These traditions did strengthen the spirit of the corps but as a counterpart collaborated with the invisibility of the socio-economic or ideological factors that help to understand the expansion of the Foreign Legion and its permeability with the context during the period 1914-1945.

    Ce texte essaye de s’approcher à l’histoire de la Légion étrangère française en mettant l’accent sur la contribution des idées et des nouvelles traditions qui ont contribué à la modernisation et à la cohésion du corps, en particulier pendant l’entre-deux-guerres. Ces traditions ont renforcé l’esprit du corps, mais en contrepartie, elles ont collaboré à l’invisibilité des facteurs socio-économiques ou idéologiques permettant de comprendre l’expansion de la Légion étrangère et sa perméabilité au contexte durant la période 1914- 1945.
