Resumen de El cos humà i les creences polítiques: Del conflicte ideològic a la guerra

  This article is a reflection on the relationship between the human body and political beliefs in the form of a commentary of the first part of Elaine Scarry’s book The Body in Pain, dedicated to war. When there is crisis of belief in a country’s self-description, in its political ideas, then these questioned ideas need the reality of the human body to be reconstituted. The real fight between bodies seems unavoidable when the ideological conflict has reached its limit. Along the commentary I also analyze the author’s use of some phenomenological concepts. I complement the article with an interpretation of Pat Barker’s Regeneration considered one of the most important narratives on the effect of war trauma on soldiers and a deep literary reflection on the consequences of war on dominant beliefs of patriotism, gender, and social class.

  Aquest article és una reflexió sobre la relació entre el cos humà i les creences polítiques en la forma d’un comentari de la primera part del llibre d’Elaine Scarry The Body in Pain, dedicat a la guerra. Quan hi ha una crisi de creença en les descripcions que un país fa de sí mateix, en les seves idees polítiques, aleshores aquestes idees qüestionades necessiten de la realitat del cos humà per reconstituir-se. La lluita real entre cossos sembla malauradament inevitable quan el conflicte ideològic ha arribat al seu límit. Al llarg del comentari també analitzo l’ús que fa l’autora d’alguns conceptes de la fenomenologia. Complemento l’article amb una interpretació de l’obra Regeneració de l’escriptora Pat Barker considerada una de les narracions més importants de l’efecte del trauma bèl·lic en el soldats i una profunda reflexió literària sobre les conseqüències de la guerra en les creences dominants de patriotisme, de gènere i de classe social.
