    Durante los siglos XVII, XVIII y a principios del siglo XIX, la Capitanía General de Venezuela establecía una sociedad en la que se estaban gestando una serie de transformaciones de orden cultural relacionadas a la concepción de la salud, las enfermedades, el cuerpo y a las medidas para su control, impuestas por el estamento dominante. Estas medidas sanitarias pueden sintetizarse en los siguientes hitos: estrategias de control frente a las epidemias, la aparición de estudios médicos en universidades, los debates sobre la pertinencia de las inhumaciones en las iglesias y los problemas de salud pública generados por este tipo de prácticas.

    Esta investigación realizada a través de la transcripción y análisis de fuentes de primera mano ubicadas en el Archivo del Concejo Municipal de Caracas y en el Archivo General de la Nación permitirá la reconstrucción del discurso que sentó las bases para la sanidad en Venezuela que aparece a principios del siglo XX.

    During 17th century, 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century, the General Captaincy of Venezuela established a society in which a series of cultural transformations were taking place, related to the conception of health, illness, the body and the measures for its control, mostly imposed by the dominant establishment. These health measures can be outlined in the following milestones: control strategies in the face of epidemics, the appearance of medical studies in universities, the debates on the suitability of inhumations in churches and the public health problems generated by this kind of practice. Carried out through the transcription and analysis of first hand sources located in the Archives of the Municipal Council of Caracas and in the General Archive of the Nation, this research will allow the reconstruction of the discourse that laid the foundations for health in Venezuela that appears at the beginning of the 20th century.
