Resumen de La representación de Venus en la pintura de Sandro Botticelli: dimensiones estéticas, simbólicas y culturales en el arte del Renacimiento

En el presente estudio analizamos la representación de la diosa Venus en las pinturas de Sandro Botticelli, examinando la noción de belleza clásica y su recepción en el Renacimiento florentino (s. XV). Por un lado, revisamos la presencia de Venus en la cultura clásica, considerando sus mitos, significaciones y simbolismos. Por otro lado, analizamos la representación de Venus en las pinturas El nacimiento de Venus y La Primavera, revisando las dimensiones artísticas, estéticas y culturales de cada obra. Finalmente, consideramos que la imagen de Venus expresa una síntesis del movimiento neoplatónico y la tradición cristiana, en la que se exalta la figura de la Donna Angelicata como Venus Celeste, y que proyecta las nociones ideales de armonía, mesura y belleza púdica para la sociedad renacentista.

In this paper we analyze the representation of the goddess Venus in Sandro Botticelli’s paintings, examining the notion of classical beauty and its reception in the Florentine Renaissance (15th century). On the one hand, we review the presence of Venus in the classical culture, considering its myths, meanings and symbolisms. On the other hand, we analyze the representation of Venus in the paintings The birth of Venus and The Spring, reviewing the artistic, aesthetic and cultural dimensions of each work. Finally, we consider that the image of Venus expresses a synthesis of the Neoplatonic movement and the Christian tradition. Thus, the figure of the goddess is exalted as the Donna Angelicata, reflecting the Celestial Venus, which projects the ideal notions of harmony, moderation and modest beauty for Renaissance society.
