The control of atmosferic conditions becomes a handicap in preventive conservation in terms of archaeological structures in situ, where one of the elements causing most of the damage to the structures preserved is water. There are more and more comercial products designed to alleviate the effects that water produces on our heritage. However, the lack of knowledge about the effects that these new products may cause in the long term on heritage makes necessary the evaluation of their behaviour. This is the reason why, the water behaviour of the nanoparticle-based water repellent, AQUASHIELD Ultimate®, has been evaluated, also having in consideration its behaviour in face of climatic degradation factors. To this end, its behaviour has been evaluated after undergoing accelerated articifial aeging in terms of temperature and humidity, irradiation with ultraviolet light and an atmosphere saturated with sulphur dioxide, comparing its water repellent properties with an acrylic resin commonly used in the field of Conservation of archaelogical structures in situ, due to its water repellent properties.
