La convocatoria del "usatge Princeps namque" en 1368 y sus repercusiones en la ciudad de Barcelona

    Después de observar la especificidad del servicio militar implícito en la invocación del usatge Princeps namque (movilización general de todos los subditos de Cataluña y no sólo de los habitantes en las tierras del patrimonio real), este trabajo describe a grandes rasgos los sucesos de 1368, en el marco de la guerra civil castellana y de la implicación de los reinos hispánicos en la guerra de los Cien Años, que justificaron la convocatoria del usatge. Seguidamente, se analiza el proceso de conversión de aquel servicio militar, obligatorio para todos, en un determinado número de combatientes que, a tenor del número de fuegos, deberían movilizar todos los núcleos urbanos del Principado, tanto de realengo como de señorío. Finalmente, a través del correspondiente libro de clavaría y de un cuaderno donde se contienen los nombres y el tipo de equipamiento de los combatientes enrolados por Barcelona, se puede comprobar el grado de cumplimiento, por parte de la ciudad condal, del servicio exigido por el monarca en virtud de este peculiar usatge.

    After commenting on the specificity of the military service implicit in the convocation of the usatge Prínceps namque (a general mobilisation, not only of the inhabitants of the lands belonging to the monarchy, but rather of all the subjects of Catalonia), this study gives a general description of the events of 1368 within the frame of the Castilian civil war and of the involvement of the Hispanic king-doms in the Hundred Years' War, events which justified the call of the usatge. An analysis is then made of the process by which that military service, which was compulsory for all, was converted into a set number of combatants to be mobilised, according to the number of hearths, by all the urban nuclei of Catalonia, including both those belonging to the monarchy and to the liege lords. Lastly, through the respective clavaria tax ledger and a notebook containing the names and type of equipment of the combatants enrolled by Barcelona, the study verifies the city's degree of compliance with the service demanded by the monarch under this unique usatge.
