El objeto de este estudio es el de realizar una aproximación histórico-jurídica a los primeros intentos de regulación de la autonomía universitaria en España. Unos intentos que acabaron malogrados, conformando un poso de frustraciones que todavía perdura. El estudio se ordena en dos grandes apartados correspondientes a las dos etapas sobre el reconocimiento de la autonomía universitaria en España que son objeto de este análisis. De un lado, se examina el primer intento serio, ya centenario, de regulación de la autonomía universitaria en España, con el Real decreto de 1919 y su posterior suspensión. De otro lado, se analiza la actuación del gobierno de la Segunda República en relación con la autonomía universitaria y, en particular, se estudia el especial modelo de autonomía de la Universidad de Barcelona aprobado en 1933.

The aim of this study is to make a historical-legal approach to the first attempts of regulation of university autonomy in Spain. These attempts that ended in failure and were a source of frustrations that still persists. The study is arranged in two large sections corresponding to the two stages of recognition of university autonomy in Spain that are the object of this analysis. On the one hand, it examines the first serious attempt, already a hundred years old, of regulating university autonomy in Spain, with the Royal Decree of 1919 and its subsequent suspension. On the other hand, it analyses the actions of the government of Spanish Second Republic in relation to university autonomy and, in particular, it studies the special model of autonomy of the University of Barcelona approved in 1933.
