    Este ensayo discute los principales manuales de historia del derecho europeo publicados en idioma inglés durante las tres últimas décadas. Resalta la importancia académica de sus respectivos autores, el contenido general de los textos, y también se ocupa de un vacío notable en la mayoría de ellos. Se trata de la ausencia de discusiones suficientes y consistentes a lo largo de cada obra acerca de los orígenes y significación del common law inglés no solo durante la edad media, sino también a lo largo de varios períodos, incluso la edad moderna y en tiempos contemporáneos. Solamente uno de ellos, recientemente traducido al español, ofrece una discusión que, si bien es introductoria, resulta más sistemática y satisfactoria que la del resto de las obras. Dicho libro se discute con un poco más de detalle que los demás al final del texto.

    This essay discusses the main manuals on European legal history published in the English language during the past three decades. It highlights the academic importance of their respective authors and the general content of each work and addresses a noticeable gap in the majority. Such gap consists of the absence of sufficient and consistent discussions about the origins and significance of the English common law not just during the middle ages, but also throughout various other periods, even the modern age and contemporary times. Only one of them, recently translated into Spanish, provides a discussion much more systematic and satisfactory than the one found in the rest of books. This work is discussed in a bit more detail than the rest at the end of the essay.
