    En la actualidad la información como herramienta del conocimiento, se muestra a través de distintos medios y por consiguiente en distintos soportes. El conflicto filosófico sobre el libro impreso versus el libro electrónico cada vez está más claro, al menos eso nos hacen suponer, tablillas de arcilla, rollos y pergaminos, testigos milenarios de que aún al paso del tiempo, la materialidad del conocimiento, es y será la forma más usual y accesible en que las culturas comuniquen, respalden, testifiquen, discursen y den cuenta de su acontecer en el tiempo.

    No obstante es preciso continuar buscando las formas de preservar dicha información y para ello invitamos a reflexionar sobre la encuadernación.

    Encuadernar en simples términos es la acción de formar y unir cuadernos, pero la encuadernación en su conjunto, es dar estructura, identidad y protección al documento manuscrito e impreso. Los múltiples estilos y técnicas revelan también la historia del conocimiento, por tanto, la tarea de identificar y aprender la encuadernación, fortalece la labor docente y coadyuva a establecer y desarrollar líneas de investigación que generen conocimiento.

    En la Facultad de Ciencias de la Documentación de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid llevamos desde 1999 formando alumnos y docentes universitarios en las técnicas de la encuadernación, conocimientos sin duda necesarios para entender la estructura constructiva y decorativa de la encuadernación y por consiguiente del libro.

    El presente estudio trata de establecer la relación entre la docencia y la investigación, y cómo la docencia impartida, por medio de los cursos de Formación Continua y los Títulos Propios, se ha beneficiado de los diversos proyectos de investigación sobre encuadernación llevados a cabo en los últimos años, y a su vez cómo estos proyectos, se han nutrido de nuevos investigadores, que han logrado obtener los conocimientos necesarios para iniciar nuevas líneas de investigación y consolidar sus perfiles académicos y docentes.

The philosophical conflict on the printed book versus the electronic book every time isclearer, at least it makes us be supposed, slats of clay, rolls and parchments, by thousand-year-old witnessesof whom still to the passage of time, the materiality of the knowledge, it is and it will be the most usual andaccessible form in which the cultures report, endorse, testify, discursen and realize of his to happen in thetime.Nevertheless it is necessary to continue looking for the ways of preserving the above mentioned informationand for it we invite to thinking about the binding.To bind in simple terms is the action to form and join notebooks, but the binding in his set, it is to givestructure, identity and protection to the manuscript and printed document.The multiple styles and technologies reveal also the history of the knowledge, therefore, the task ofidentifying and learning the binding, it strengthens the educational labor and contributes to establishingand developing lines of investigation that generate knowledgeIn the Faculty of Sciences of the Documentation of the Complutensian University of Madrid we go from 1999forming pupils and educational university students in the technologies of the binding, knowledgeundoubtedly necessary to understand the constructive and decorative structure of the binding andconsequently of the book.Thepresent study tries to establish the relation between the teaching and the investigation, and how thegiven teaching, by means of the courses of Constant formation and the Own Titles, has benefited from thediverse projects of investigation on binding carried out in the last years, and in turn how these projects, theyhave been nourished of newinvestigators, who have managed to obtain the necessary knowledge to initiatenew lines of investigation and to consolidate his academic and educational profiles.
