The aim of this paper is, first of all, to recall the distinction drawn by Ortega between the "technical" way of doing philosophy and the "literary" way; secondly, to show in which precise sense this "technical" form of philosophizing claimed by Ortega would amount to phenomenology; and thirdly, to point out the relevance of this question to correct understanding the phenomenological bases of Orteguian ethics.
