Resumen de Cronoestratigrafía relativa de eventos paleosísmicos en el tercio inferior del río Jaruco, Cuba occidental

Las espeleosismitas de varias cuevas en la cuenca inferior del río Jaruco, en Cuba occidental, permiten identificar antiguos terremotos que ocurrieron hasta 10000 años antes del presente. Un grupo importante de estos eventos que quedaron marcados en el fracturamiento de espeleotemas coincidió con el período de asentamiento de indocubanos en las cuevas del territorio. Subfósiles de fauna pleistocénica vertebrada terrestre han sido cubiertos por espeleotemas fracturadas que se asocian, por sus patrones de agrietamiento, con paleosismos. Esta nota presenta un primer resumen de la cronología relativa de estos eventos.

Speleoseismites from caves in the lower third of the Jaruco River, in western Cuba allows the identification of ancient earthquakes that took place until 10000 years BP. An important group of these events recognized in the fractured speleothems where contemporaneous with the settlement period of the native Cuban aborigins. Subfossils of Pleistocene vertebrate terrestrial fauna are also associated, as revealed by their joint patterns, with paleoearthquakes. This note summarizes a first approach to the relative chronology of these events.
