In 1926, for the first time, an Italian woman, the writer Grazia Deledda, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. This prestigious award represents a moment of pride and redemption for the entire Italian women’s literary scene. A goal, however, that does not arrive suddenly, but that is preceded by no less than 18 applications in 13 years, and that rewards (according to the opinion expressed by the Academy of Sweden) “the power of writing that, supported by a high ideal, depicts in plastic forms life which is in the secluded island of Sardinia and that with depth and heat deals with problems of general human interest”. Nel 1926, per la prima volta una donna italiana, la scrittrice Grazia Deledda, viene insignita del premio Nobel per la Letteratura. Tale prestigioso premio rappresenta un momento di orgoglio e riscatto per l’intero panorama letterario femminile italiano. Un traguardo, peraltro, che non arriva improvviso, ma che è preceduto da ben 18 candidature in 13 anni, e che premia (secondo il parere espresso dall’Accademia di Svezia) “la potenza di una scrittura che, sostenuta da un alto ideale, ritrae in forme plastiche la vita quale è nella appartata isola sarda e che con profondità e calore tratta problemi di generale interesse umano”. Nella narrativa di Grazia Deledda il patrimonio spirituale di una terra mitica, tramandatosi nei secoli e con carattere di esemplarità, assurge ad ancoraggio per un soggetto inquieto che, come canna al vento, è travolto da un fatale destino che diventa interiore travaglio.
