El castell d’Orpesa ha estat objecte de vàries campanyes d’intervencions arqueològiques i restauracions arquitectòniques entre 2011 i 2018. Les excavacions arqueològiques han estat motivades en ocasions per l’execució de projectes concrets de restauració y reconstrucció, però també ha hagut vegades que el procés ha estat a l’inrevés, s’han pogut retirar volums ingents de runa acumulada sobre les restes i consolidar després algunes estructures. Ara s’intentarà posar en relació els treballs consecutius, quan no solapats, d’excavació y restauració de les torres Nord, Oest i Sud-oest, així com dels llenços de l’entrada del castell, perquè tot plegat ha permés la recuperació d’una fortificació gairebé desapareguda per al conjunt de la població.

The castle of Orpesa underwent various archaeological excavations and architectural restoration projects between 2011 and 2018. While some of the archaeological excavations resulted from specific restoration and reconstruction projects, on other occasions the process went the opposite way: large volumes of accumulated rubble were removed from the remains and then used to consolidate other structures. The present article interrelates these consecutive and sometimes concurrent excavation and restoration projects on the north, west and south-west towers, and on the wall faces at the castle entrance, which have led to the recovery of a fortress that was almost forgotten by the local population.
