    This article introduces us to the unknown role played by the Municipal Library of Jerez and its then-librarian Manuel Esteve, after the military uprising of 1936 and the fi rst years of the post-war period, once the new authorities began to apply the repressive measures intended to control the free circulation of ideas, especially through the book
