  En el presente estudio tiene como objeto general el análisis de la evolución de las exportaciones del sector atunero a la Unión Europea y su impacto en la balanza comercial dentro de un marco temporal comprendido entre 2014 – 2018. Su abordaje investigativo para la obtención de los datos es cuali-cuantitativo. Se estructura en base a un marco teórico-conceptual y jurídico. Las metodologías deductiva, inductiva, permitieron ampliar el conocimiento y su impacto respecto al acuerdo comercial con la Unión Europea para medir su fuerza exportadora de lomo y conservas de atún ecuatoriano. También se plantea un análisis de reflexión prospectiva considerando los posibles escenarios, alternativas de solución y mejora bajo criterios de trazabilidad y diferenciación del porvenir del sector. Entre los principales resultados obtenidos, se determina que el sector atunero es vital para la economía aportando un 5% al PIB. En términos de balanza comercial, no se evidencia un repunte significativo en el aumento de las exportaciones a partir del inicio del acuerdo comercial. Aunque si se evidencia una disminución a nivel de importaciones del segmento petrolero sobre todo en el año 2014, que causa un efecto notorio en la Balanza Comercial. Por otra parte, las exportaciones no petroleras, se han ido recuperando hasta lograr una tendencia hacia el alza. Esto demuestra que las exportaciones no petroleras entre ellas el atún, son un factor clave hacia la sostenibilidad económica, que siendo aun altamente dependiente de los ingresos petroleros se ha ido debilitando con mayor fuerza en los últimos cinco años.

  The purpose of this study is to analyze the evolution of the exports of the tuna sector to the European Union and its impact on the trade balance within a time frame between 2014 - 2018. Its investigative approach to obtaining the data it is qualitative-quantitative. It is structured based on a theoretical-conceptual and legal framework. The deductive, inductive methodologies allowed to expand the knowledge and its impact regarding the trade agreement with the European Union to measure its export strength of loin and canned Ecuadorian tuna. An analysis of prospective reflection is also proposed, considering possible scenarios, alternative solutions and improvements under traceability and differentiation criteria for the future of the sector. Among the main results obtained, it is determined that the tuna sector is vital for the economy, contributing 5% to GDP. In terms of trade balance, there is no evidence of a significant rebound in the increase in exports from the beginning of the trade agreement. Although there is evidence of a decrease at the level of imports of the oil segment, especially in 2014, which causes a noticeable effect on the Trade Balance. On the other hand, non-oil exports have been recovering until achieving an upward trend. This shows that non-oil exports, including tuna, are a key factor towards economic sustainability, which, while still highly dependent on oil revenues, has been weakening more strongly in the last five years.
