    Leopoldo Alas (Clarín), catedrático cesaraugustano de Economía, redactó en 1881, el prólogo a la primera traducción del libro de Rudolf von Ihering, La lucha por el Derecho. En este texto destaca la importancia del Derecho romano como elemento básico de la cultura occidental, su realismo y vínculo con la sociedad, en lugar del mero formalismo jurídico, la abstracción y el estatalismo. Son unas reflexiones que tienen actualidad, y cobran mayor valor porque vienen de la reflexión filosófico-jurídica y su entronque en la cultura alemana del siglo XIX.

    Leopoldo Alas (Clarín), Professor of Economics at the University of Zaragoza, wrote in 1881 the prologue to the first translation of Rudolf von Ihering’s book, written by his friend Adolfo Posada and titled The struggle for Law. In this text, Leopoldo Alas highlights the importance of Roman Law as a basic element of Western culture, due to its realism and its links with society, rather than just a mere abstract legal formalism. These reflections are of great value because they come from philosophicallegal understanding and their connection to German culture in the 19th century.
