El proceso de traducción de las guías docentes del Grado en Medicina

    La traducción de textos médicos conlleva un alto grado de complejidad, fundamentalmente por el hecho de que su terminología debe cumplir con unas convenciones previamente establecidas, siendo imposible, en este tipo de traducción, la libre interpretación de su sentido. En este artículo se pretende ofrecer un recorrido a través del proceso de traducción de un tipo de textos que se incluyen en el campo de la traducción médica, intentando visibilizar tanto las problemáticas como las limitaciones que un traductor puede encontrar. Se trata de la traducción del español al inglés (inversa, por tanto) de algunas guías docentes de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universitat de València. La importancia de estos textos, teniendo en cuenta su naturaleza, reside en su carácter informativo y descriptivo, por lo que su traducción debe presentar una estructura y una terminología literalmente fiel a la del texto origen, cumpliendo así el propósito de servir como guía de estudio a los alumnos del Grado en Medicina. Teniendo en cuenta este factor determinante, consideramos necesario un análisis exhaustivo para encontrar una variedad de términos que constituyen un claro ejemplo de los problemas que un traductor puede encontrarse a la hora de enfrentarse a la traducción en este tipo de textos, como por ejemplo, la traducción de siglas o acrónimos, patologías y partes anatómicas. Así, en este artículo, presentaremos algunos casos en los que se pueden encontrar este tipo de problemas y analizaremos, de forma más extensa, tanto el proceso búsqueda de información bibliográfica como la documentación terminológica en fuentes de información especializadas en medicina

    The translation of medical texts involves a high degree of complexity, mainly due to the fact that its terminology must fulfil some conventions previously established, so that is the reason why this kind of translation does not allow the free interpretation of its sense. In this article we will try to offer a tour through the translation process of those texts that are included in the field of the medical translation, trying to make both the problems and the limitations of a translator visible. The present article is based on the translation from Spanish into English (inverse translation) of some teaching guides of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitat de València. The importance of these texts, taking into account their structure, lies in their informative and descriptive nature, so their translation must present the same structure and terminology in the translated text and in the original text, thus fulfilling the goal of serving as a study guide for the students of the Degree in Medicine. Taking into account this determinant factor, we consider that it is necessary an exhaustive analysis to find a variety of terms that constitute a clear example of the problems that a translator could find when dealing with a translation in this kind of texts, such as the translation of acronyms, pathologies and anatomical parts. Thus, in this article, we will present some cases where this kind of problems could appear and analyse, extensively, both the bibliographical information research and the terminological documentation in specialized information sources in medicine.
