    Os fóruns de discussão constituem, actualmente, uma das mais importantes ferramentas de auxílio ao ensino a distância. A aprendizagem em Rede consolida-se na utilização destas ferramentas de comunicação e, particularmente, nas interacções que se desenrolam nestes ambientes. Logo, a participação dos estudantes em fórum, a frequência e a forma como o fazem, os tipos de interacção que estabelecem com os seus pares e com o professor podem e devem ser analisados para que melhor se possa conhecer o grupo e, em última análise, oferecer um ensino mais eficiente e direccionado e centrado no aluno.

    Neste artigo apresentamos um processo semi-automático para caracterizar os processos de interacção entre actores e as suas participações em discussões, Para tal, definimos um conjunto de indicadores, calculados numericamente, que traduzem as interacções nestes espaços e de seguida, propomos uma série de representações gráficas dessas mesmas interacções. Utilizando estas ferramentas, analisámos um conjunto de seis fóruns e obtivemos resultados que caracterizam os seus intervenientes relativamente à centralização da informação, a densidade e intensidade das interacções, e, também, a qualidade da moderação realizada naqueles fóruns.

    Discussion forums are presently one of the most important tools in assisting distance education. Web learning is accomplished by using these communication tools and, particularly, by the interactions that take place in these settings.

    Therefore, students’ participations in a discussion forum, the frequency and the way they participate, the types of interactions that they create with their colleagues and with the professor, can and should be analyzed in order to fully understand the group and, consequently, allow a more efficient and student focused education. In this article, we demonstrate a semi-automatic process of characterizing the interactions and discussion participations that take place in discussion forums. In order to accomplish this, we defined a set of indicators, numerically calculated, that describe interactions in a forum and we also suggest a number of graphical representations of these interactions. Using these tools, we analyzed a total of six discussion forums and reached results that describe their participants, according to the centralization of information, the density and intensity of interactions, and yet the quality of forum moderation.
