Roger Boase

  • have chosen an invención by the Spanish jouster Fernando de Acuña (c. 1456–1495), the future Viceroy of Sicily, as a fine example of this minimalist genre. I identify the lady to whom it was addressed and place this work within its historical context. In so doing, I discuss the general principles that have to be borne in mind when deciphering such compositions.
