El área demostrativa de San Ramón y su influencia en la transición a la avicultura industrial uruguaya

    El artículo estudia  la influencia que tuvo el Área Demostrativa de San Ramón (adsr) establecida por acción del Instituto Interamericano de Ciencias Agrícolas (IICA) y el gobierno uruguayo, en el desarrollo de la avicultura nacional. Se analiza la situación de la avicultura en los años 50 y 60 y el proceso de gestación del adsr, sus resultados, causas de finalización y principales aportes. Se concluye que la misma fue determinante en la transición de la avicultura chacarera a la avicultura industrial, aunque no fue la causa única.

    The article deals with the influence that the San Ramón Demonstrational Area (Área Demostrativa de San Ramón, adsr), as settled by then Inter-American Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IICA) in conjunct action with the uruguayan government, had on the development of national poultry farming. The situation of poultry farming in the 1950s and 1960s is analized, as well as the process of inception of the adsr, its results, the causes for its termination, and its main contributions. The study concludes the adsr was substantial in the transition from small-scale to industrial poultry farming, even though it was not the only driver towards it.
