Del 29 de noviembre al 3 de junio de 2012 el Museo Quai Branly de París acoge una exposición monográfica sobre la evolución de la visión occidental del Otro. A partir de algo más de 500 piezas nos remonta hasta el descubrimiento de América y la exhibición de los indígenas por las cortes europeas. El proyecto colonial del siglo XIX mostraba la necesidad de imponerse como civilizadores sobre esos pueblos primitivos y surgieron los zoos humanos, tanto en Europa como en EEUU. Esta visión de inferioridad evolucionará en el siglo XX hacia las tesis racistas. Se ha editado un catálogo de la exposición y se va a celebrar un Coloquio Internacional "Alrededor de los zoos humanos" entre el 24 y 25 de enero de 2012

From the 29th of November to the 3rd of June 2012, the Quai Branly Museum in Paris houses a monographic exhibition about the evolution of the western vision of the Other. With over 500 pieces, it transports the visitor to the era of the Discovery of America and the practice of displaying native individuals to the length and breadth of European courts. During the 19th Century, the colonial project attempted to show the imperative need to assert the western civilisation over the native population, and hence human zoos sprang all over Europe and the USA. This idea of dominance and superiority evolved in the 20th Century to what we know as racism. An exhibition catalogue has been published and made available, and an International Colloquium: "Around the Human Zoos", will take place from the 24th to the 25thth of January 2012
