La figura de Aida de la Fuente, joven comunista asturiana fallecida en la revolución en octubre de 1934, fue evocada en numerosas ocasiones por parte de la izquierda española; tanto en los años posteriores a su muerte, en los orígenes y desarrollo de la Guerra Civil, como durante el tardofranquismo y la transición, extendiéndose el mito hasta la actualidad. En este texto se pretende hacer un repaso por la interpretación que se hizo esta mujer en cada momento, indagando en cómo y por qué cambia y reflexionando sobre la importancia que el género y la juventud tuvieron en la construcción de la memoria.

Aida de la Fuente, a young communist who died in the Asturias Revolt of 1934, was remembered by the Spanish Left in the years following her death—the origins and development of the Civil War—as well as during late Francoism and the transition, and even into the present day. In this paper, I provide an overview of this woman’s life and legacy followed by how and when these evolved to reflect the role of gender and youth in the construction of memory.
