  • Resumen
    • A morphologic analysis have been carried out in the upper slope of the southwest of the Iberian Margin (Gulf of Cadiz) between Faro and San Vicente Cape. It has been done by bathymetric data andseismic reflection profiles. The Algarve continental margin is an abrupt margin, with a narrow shelfand a slope crossed by submarine canyons, controlled by a compressive tectonic regime. Threemain morphologic types have been identified: erosives (erosive surface; submarine canyons; con-tourite moat); depositionals (progradational deposits of the upper slope; contourite deposits); and gravitational (slides). Two main sectors can be considered bounded by the Portimao Canyon, whith different tectonic, morphologic and sedimentary features. Across-slope processes are dominant on the Algarve continental margin, but they are affected by along-slope processes on the middle slope
