  • Resumen
    • In this work we summarise the results obtained by our research team in the Gallocanta lake. At present; Gallocanta is a carbonate-rich saline lake with a strongly negative water balance. The sedimentary filling, Holocene in age, comprises six sedimentary units with different mineralogical andisotopic composition. The vertical succession of these units allows the identification of three evolutionary stages. The first stage was characterised by alluvial sedimentation and arid conditions. The second one corresponded to a shallow fresh water carbonate lake developed under more humid conditions. The third, and current stage, is represented by a carbonate-rich, saline lake with higher organic matter preservation. A 14C based chronology indicates an age of ca 10000 yr BP for the base of the second stage, and of 750 yr BP for the base of the third stage.
