I study the process of the cinematographic adaptation of the stage play Cobardías (1919), by Linares Rivas; whose result was Um Homem às Direitas (1945), directed by Jorge Brum do Canto. I conclude that the play criticizes the moral decline in the spanish society according to regenerationism. However, the film collects only its moralizing criticism in favor of reproducing some of the ideals of the Portuguese New State. Likewise, it means a notable example of an interliterary Iberian connection non-mediated by an explicit pro-Iberian ideology.
