Este artículo trata de analizar la evolución del ejército y las milicias durante el reinado de Felipe V en la América española desde los cambios producidos en la institución militar. El objetivo es averiguar el grado de movilización y reclutamiento en las Indias a partir de la etapa inmediatamente anterior a 1700. Tratando de comparar las reformas introducidas a ambos lados del Atlántico, se apuntaa indagar el grado de control estatal de la institución militar y sus efectos en la progresiva militarización de la América española.

This article seeks to analyze the evolution of the army and militiasduring the reign of Philip V in Spanish America since the changes in the military institution. The objective is to find out the type of mobilization and recruitment in Spanish Indies from the stage immediately before to 1700. Trying to compare the reformsintroduced on both sides of the Atlantic, it is aimed at researching the type of state control of the military institution and its effects on the progressive militarization of Spanish America
