  • Resumen
    • This paper describes a method of organising subject matter or occupational skills into flexible units of instruction using a competency chart approach. Specifically developed for teaching a course in instructional media to prospective teachers, this competency chart allows the instructor to assess the entry competence of learners and to determine their specific instructional needs. Using a comprehensive media chart listing 66 competency statements under seven general areas of competence, the article refers to the implementation of the method in two different university settings. The chart was developed after surveying basic textbooks in the field and the media courses in most Canadian universities. Student reaction to the method and an analysis of performance are presented in the paper.
