Computer‐Assisted Instruction (CAI) has been part of the educational and computing environment at the Katholieke Universiteit, Nijmegen, the Netherlands (KUN) since about 1973. From that time, the medium has undergone a number of ‘growing pains’ concomitant with its informal introduction and implementation as an instructional resource. This paper describes the current status of CAI at KUN and briefly describes several ongoing projects. Attention is directed to the problems that can be resolved through the use of CAI. The author also presents a rationale for selecting or justifying CAI usage today. The final section describes some problems one is likely to encounter in setting up and operating a CAI service.
