Resumen de The Theory and Practice of Economics:: Can a Computer Help to Link the Two?

J.N. Robinson

  • The paper suggests that two types of student have particular difficulty when relating theory and practice in economics. The adult student has too much experience of the world about him to adjust to the usual teaching method which begins at an over‐simplified level, while the school‐leaver knows too little about the world to see the relevance of the theory.

The paper describes a computer‐based simulation‐game designed to help students to link theory and practice. It places them in the role of the government of the day and asks them to make budgets in order to control an economy which exhibits certain selected features of the real world. The paper concludes with a short discussion on the assessment of the game.
