Resumen de Student Rating of the Components of a Successful Self‐instructional Course

R.G. Gabb

  • This paper describes the use of a self‐instructional system in an animal structure and function course for meat inspection students. The method was shown to be successful in promoting learning as measured by pre‐test/post‐test gain. An attempt was made to determine which of nine components of the system were seen by students as being important to their enjoyment of the course and the effectiveness of the method in facilitating learning. All nine components were rated highly both for enjoyment and effectiveness, although effectiveness was rated significantly higher than enjoyment for seven of the components. The two highest‐rated components, for both enjoyment and effectiveness, were the self‐paced feature and the multi‐media technique.
