Resumen de The Construct Lesson Plan:: evaluating the efficiency of a new approach to group/classroom instruction

Lillian Pedrick, Nancy Fergusson Tarquinio

  • In August 1977, this journal published an article by Danny G. Langdon entitled ‘The Construct Lesson Plan: taking the inefficiency out of group/classroom instruction’ (PLET, 14, 3, 199‐206). Briefly stated, that article described a new approach to teaching/learning under which the finite amount of both class and teacher time is optimised utilising a group of instruments designed to: (a) use the first six to nine minutes of class time to assess the amount of student learning that takes place through preparatory study and construct a lesson plan based on the actual rather than the surmised entry level of the group, (b) use the remainder of class time to provide cursory treatment for learned concepts and in‐depth treatment for difficult — not yet learned — concepts, and (c) use the built‐in evaluation instruments to assess and improve both the preparatory study materials and in‐class learning. These instruments are Diagnostic Pre‐tests, Lesson Plan Cards, and Content Outlines. Student preparatory study materials include a text, supplemental readings and an adjunct Study Guide. This is a follow‐up to that article. It describes the chronological development and data collection processes used in evaluating two Construct Lesson Plan courses currently offered by The American College — ‘Economics’ and ‘Life Assurance Law and Mathematics’.
