    En el año 2010, con motivo de una actuación en la zona de presunción arqueológica de la ermita de San Pedro Apóstol de Berriz, en el paraje de Legaño, se localizaron los restos de un cementerio utilizado durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Documentar esos restos ha permitido reunir y conocer nuevos datos sobre la historia cementerial de Berriz, en una de las fases más desconocidas tanto para el propio municipio como para Bizkaia. Una etapa que se encuentra además poco informada desde las fuentes documentales. Con este texto pretendemos ofrecer un primer avance a los resultados obtenidos hasta el momento en la evaluación del cementerio decimonónico, tanto desde el punto de vista arqueológico como antropológico.

    Arkeologia zona ustezkoa den Berrizko San Pedro apostoluaren baselizan (Legaño), 2010 urtean egindako lanetan, XIX. mendearen bigarren erdian erabilitako hilerri baten aztarnak topatu ziren. Berrizko hilerrien historiaz datu berriak biltzeko eta ezagutzeko aukera eman digu aztarna horiek aztertzeak, batez ere, bai Berrizko udalerrian bai Bizkaian ezezagunena den garaikoak baitira. Areago, garai horretan oso informazio gutxi eskaintzen digute iturri idatziek. XIX. mendeko hilerria aztertzean, Arkeologiaren nahiz Antropologiaren ikuspegitik, orain arte lortutako emaitzen aurrerapena da testu hau.

    In the year 2010, on the occasion of an intervention in the hermitage San Pedro Apóstol of Berriz, in Legaño, thought to be of archaeological interest, the remains of a cemetery active during the last half of the XIX century were found. The documenting of these remains has permitted to collect data relating to the cemeterial history of Berriz, in one of its most unknown periods both for the municipality and Bizkaia. A period that is moreover undocumented from the documenting sources. With this text we try to provide a preview of the obtained results up to now in the evaluation of the XIX century cemetery, both from an archaeological and anthropological point of view.
