The end-member mixing analysis (EMMA) has been applied to the Gavarres-Baix Ter aquifer system. Three end-members are selected according to the geological and hydrogeological features of the area. Seven components (Cl, Br, Si, I, Sr, h i80 and 8D) are used according to mixing diagrams. In this example, EMMA has provided good results in the Baix Ter aluvial aquifer, indicating that a highest percentage of recharge (80%) starts off at the Gavarres range, while river recharge to the alluvial aquifer is just about the rest Furthermore, the extent of salt water intrusion in a main supply well has been estimated in 10%, in agreement with salinity data.
