  • Resumen
    • The Tiétar valley is located between the southern side of Gredos Range (Ávila) and the Piélago Sierra (Toledo), central Spain. The Tiétar River flows along the graben generated between both blocks, which is a sub-basin of the Tagus basin. This region has one of the highest annual precipitation patterns, showing average rainfall values of c. 1000 mm. The drainage area of this valley is rectangular in shape, displaying a dendritic pattern in the highest areas. The Tiétar River could be definedas a perennial multichannel river (flow) showing low sinuosity index and development of commongravel/sand bars and islands. Tributaries are short, and their sediments, when present, are mainlyformed by coarse flooding deposits. Over one hundred water mills were built on the Tiétar hydraulic system since the XVth century, which were active until de second half of the XXth century. Theirpreservation state is deplorable and some effort should be made to their recovery in the river banklandscape.
