  • Resumen
    • The outcrops located around the village of Aguilón (Zaragoza province, NE Spain), are being continuously used in the last years for educational purposes at different academic levels. A 5 km long tract of the local traffic road provides a complete cross-section of the so-called Aguilón Anticline.

Different Jurassic, Lower Cretaceous and Tertiary geological units are involved in this structure. The easily accessible and superbly exposed outcrops of the Aguilón Anticline provide examples of basic geological aspects such as those related to stratigraphy and sedimentology of continental and marine units, structural geology at different scales, paleontology and taphonomy of diverse invertebrate and vertebrate groups, geomorphology and geological hazards, the imprint of climatic change in ancient successions or sedimentation/tectonics relationship. A major effort should be done for the future development of the Aguilón Geological Park, which will provide a more accessible and complete view of all the learning that can be reached from the exposed rocks.
