In 2004, we celebrate the second centenary of Antonio José Cavanilles' dead (1745-1804). He was a valencian priest educated in Philosophy and Theology that however he became one of the most important scientific natural ist from the Spanish Enl ightenment. Their works were mainly centred in botany, discipline in which he achieved a relevant proyection into Europe. The most known work, although the least botanical among them, was the "Observaciones sobre la Historia Natural, Geografía, Agricultura, Población y Frutos del Reyno de Valencia". This is very important work to know his geologic ideas and his contribution to the development of the modern Geology
