El Vigo de la Edad Moderna (siglos XVI-XVIII) apenas con taba con infraestructuras asistenciales; sólo el hospital de La Magdalena y del Espíritu Santo, bajo patronato del Ayuntamiento, dieron cobijo y asistencia hasta 1834 a pobres ostiatim de la villa y a -supuestos- peregrinos en tránsito. Disponía de un cuadro profesional muy corto y a tiempo parcial, excepto la hospitalera, y destacando el administrador. Los ingresos eran siempre los justos o insuficientes, con cantidades bastante modestas para su labor. Con la pérdida del local por la nueva colegiata, pasó a funcionar como cárcel y cuartel para la tropa, desapareciendo en favor del hospicio.
In the Modem Age (XVI-XVIII centuries) Vigo barely had asistencial infrastructures; only "La Magdalena" and "Espíritu Santo" hos pitals, under the patronage of the town hall, gave shelter and assistance to the poor ones until 1834 ostiatim and to alleged pilgrims in transit. It had a very short and part-time professional cadre, except the hospital, and standing out the administrator. Income were always fair or insufficient, with very low amounts for their work. With the loss of the premises by the new collegiate, it started to work as a jail and barracks for the troops, disappearing in favor of hospice.
