Resumen de Educational Objectives in Medicine — Some Special Problems
Educational objectives are valuable means for planning, implementing and assessing educational programmes. They are necessary if the educational expectations of staff and students are to be achieved. Objectives are especially important in medical education because of the rapidly increasing complexity of medical knowledge and the large numbers of staff involved in teaching, yet many medical schools have found it difficult to develop and use educational objectives for their curriculum. Problems commonly encountered in medical education relate to the origin of objectives, their development and their acceptance by a teaching staff who often have limited formal training in educational methodology. This paper reviews the particular value of objectives in medical education and some of the special problems encountered in their use.
