    La interpretación del Itinerario de Antonino, recopilación de rutas del Imperio romano, siempre ha ofrecido dificultades. Durante siglos, la mayoría de los estudiosos han convenido en que las distancias que da entre ciudades o mansiones son rara vez compatibles con las distancias reales medidas sobre el terreno. Se hacía a los copistas medievales responsables de muchos errores en la transmisión de los números.

    La hipótesis de que las desinencias de acusativo indican que las distancias no han de contarse hasta la ciudad mencionada, sino hasta una encrucijada de donde parte un ramal hacia la ciudad, abre nuevos y prometedores horizontes. Se consideran aquí, desde esta nueva perspectiva, los sectores británico e italiano del Itinerario.

    Se comentan también las resistencias con que tropieza esta nueva lectura de viejos textos.

    The interpretation of the Antonine ltinerary, a compilation of routes of the Roman Empire, has always been difficult. For centuries, most scholars have agreed that the distances it gives between civitates or mansiones are very rarely compatible with real distances as measured on the ground. Mediaeval copyists were made responsible for very many errors in the transmission of numbers.

    The suggestion that the accusative case-endings mean that distances are not to be counted up to the stated town, but rather to a crossroad from where a branch road leads to the town, opens new and prornising horizons.

    The British and ltalian sections of the ltinerary are here discussed under this new approach. The opposition to this new reading of old texts is also commented.

    Antoninoren Ibilbidea, Erromatarren Inperioko bidatzen laburbilketa dena interpretatzea, beti izan zeregin zaila. Mendeetan zehar, ikertzaile gehienek, hiri edo etxeen artean ematen dituen distantziak, lurzoruaren gaineko egiazkoekin inoizka bakarrik bateragarriak direla uste izan dute. Erdi Aroko kopiatzaileak, zenbakiak trasrnititzean oker askoren erantzule egiten ohi ziren. Akusatiboko desinentziak, distantziak, aipatu hiriraino baino, hirirantz bidexka bat ateratzen den bidagurutze bateraino zenbatu behar direla da hipotesia, azterbide berri emankorrak ireki eginaz.
