  • Resumen
    • The writer argues that collaboration between teachers can take place in Islam at a level which is relatively rare and difficult to achieve in western Europe. He also suggests that it is possible for professional development programmes in the Middle East to emphasize and build upon realistic self‐evaluation to an extent which is not possible in western Europe. On the basis of these two hypotheses which he and a colleague have explored in two innovative programmes, he suggests that the transfer of professional development activities from western Europe to the Middle East may entail more than minor cosmetic alterations.
